A quick glance at todays copy of the New Zealand Herald made Warren, the life force behind Aucklands premier car grooming agency Shyn4U take a deep breath and express a sigh of relief as he found his long cherished dream come true. But which news item in the countrys leading newspaper caused the veteran car grooming expert to express his contentment from an anxiety he was harboring all these days Please read on to know more about it.
A survey conducted by New Zealand Motor Industry Association has confirmed the acceptance for importing of EVs (Electric Vehicles) and PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles) into the country, while at least 44 new models are expected to be launched during 2016-2020 period. Warren, incidentally, has long been looking forward to try his hand on detailing these newly developed automobiles that could run only on electricity, such as EVs and on fossil fuel and/or electricity according to the drivers wish. A truly revolutionary invention indeed to benefit New Zealands motoring fraternity to a great extent!
However, since this groundbreaking innovation may also interest the reader immensely extent, here are the details.
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles or PHEVs are not so different from conventional hybrids since they have electric motors as prime movers as well as internal combustion engines (regular features of all automobiles), save and except the fact that they have PHEV batteries that can be charged by plugging into an outlet. But what additional benefit could I possibly achieve from a PHEV instead of a conventional hybrid? asks a curious reader. To be precise, unlike regular hybrids, PHEVs can substitute electricity from the grid for the fossil fuel. Take the Ford Fusion Energi 2014 as an example that can run around 21 miles by using electric power alone, while the Chevy Volt can cruise about 38 miles before the internal combustion engine kicks in.
However, the NZ Herald special correspondent also added that “Of the total number of planned new plug-in vehicle models between now and the end of 2020, one-third are EVs and two-thirds are PHEVs,” according to MIA chief executive David Crawford. “In each of the years there will be around 7-10 new models a year introduced. This is a reasonably strong growth rate.”
Now, let us get back to Warren, the grooming guru in order to figure out how he proposes to groom the new imports. However, his nonchalant response about the issue is given below in his own lips.
Apart from the exuberance felt by good old Warren in detailing the EVs and PHEVs, these newly developed automobiles would, on one hand decrease the dependency on fossil fuels, while on the other hand reduce pollution of the environment to substantial extent.
